The churning of the sea

They churned the sea,
demon and divine,
to and fro to, to and fro, to and fro.

The sea produced treasures,
gems for all alike.
They bartered, traded and argued for some,
And some were handed over without any fuss.

To and fro, to and fro, to and fro;
The rhythm unbroken, the strength alive,
Unlikely partners made of enemies old,
paying no heed to stories of lore.

For the earth was dying, her resources all gone,
And the sea was the mother,
her belly our origin, last hope alone.

So churn they did, her belly so vast.
To and fro, to and fro, to and fro.

The demons took some,
The divine grabbed another,
But one thing they both wanted,
over everything other.

The story says it was immortality.

One side says the other cheated,
The other denies.
And the sea continues to churn,
ghostly, loud her cries.

to and fro, to and fro, to and fro.

Man believed none.
He bows to none.
He rubbishes the existence of divine.
But believes in the power of demon.

And so who won immortality I ask?
Who?

The samundra manthan is a old tale of the hindu religion. The entire story can be found here: click . My take is slightly different. Its not meant to hurt any religious sentiments. Its merely a inquiry.
